Common Misunderstandings About 800℃ Cartridge Heater and How to Avoid Them

In the process of selecting and using 800℃ cartridge heaters, many industrial users have some misunderstandings, which often lead to poor heating effect, shortened service life of the cartridge heater, or even safety accidents. For example, some users think that as long as the cartridge heater is marked with 800℃, it can be used in any high-temperature environment; others confuse the maximum temperature with the long-term operating temperature, resulting in premature damage to the cartridge heater. These misunderstandings not only increase the use cost but also affect the normal progress of production.

First, it is necessary to clarify the difference between the maximum temperature and the long-term operating temperature of the cartridge heater. A cartridge heater marked with 800℃ means that its maximum instantaneous temperature can reach 800℃, but long-term operation at this temperature will greatly reduce its service life. According to experience, the long-term operating temperature of the 800℃ cartridge heater should be controlled at 700℃ to 750℃, which can ensure stable heating and prolong the service life. Many users ignore this point and operate the cartridge heater at 800℃ for a long time, resulting in frequent replacement of the cartridge heater, which increases the production cost.

Another common misunderstanding is that the higher the power of the cartridge heater, the better. In fact, the power selection of the cartridge heater should be based on the actual heating needs. If the power is too high, it will not only waste energy but also cause local overheating of the heated object, affecting product quality; if the power is too low, it will take a long time to reach the set temperature, reducing production efficiency. For example, in the glass molding industry, the heating speed and temperature stability are required to be high, so a cartridge heater with appropriate power and high power density should be selected; while in the high-temperature testing field, the temperature stability is more important, so the power can be appropriately reduced to ensure stable operation.

Many users also ignore the importance of the material of the cartridge heater. The 800℃ high-temperature cartridge heater needs to use high-temperature resistant materials, but some manufacturers use ordinary stainless steel to reduce costs, which leads to the cartridge heater being easily oxidized and deformed at high temperatures. A high-quality cartridge heater should use 310S stainless steel for the shell, which has excellent high-temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, and the internal resistance wire should be made of nickel-chromium alloy, which can maintain stable performance at high temperatures. In addition, the magnesium oxide powder filled inside should also be high-temperature resistant, otherwise, it will lose its insulating effect at high temperatures, leading to short circuits of the cartridge heater.

When installing the cartridge heater, another common mistake is not paying attention to the thermal expansion space. The cartridge heater will expand when heated, and if there is no enough expansion space, it will be squeezed by the heated object, resulting in deformation or damage. Therefore, when drilling the installation hole, it is necessary to leave a small gap to allow the cartridge heater to expand freely. In addition, the wiring part of the cartridge heater should be kept away from high-temperature areas, and high-temperature resistant wires should be used to avoid wire aging and short circuits.

In summary, the misunderstandings in the selection and use of 800℃ cartridge heaters are mainly concentrated in the aspects of temperature understanding, power selection, material selection, and installation. To avoid these problems, it is necessary to clarify the difference between maximum temperature and long-term operating temperature, select the appropriate power according to actual needs, choose high-quality cartridge heaters with high-temperature resistant materials, and pay attention to installation details. For complex high-temperature application scenarios, professional technical guidance is needed to select and use the cartridge heater correctly, so as to ensure the stability and efficiency of production.
