In the industrial heating field, single-head cartridge heaters are divided into internal wiring and external wiring types according to the wiring method. Many users are confused when choosing, not knowing which one is more suitable for their own equipment. In fact, there are obvious differences between the two in terms of structure, performance, application scenarios and service life, and understanding these differences is the key to making a reasonable choice.
The most fundamental difference lies in the wiring structure. External wiring single-head cartridge heaters have terminal blocks at the port, and the internal heating wire is connected to the external power wire through terminals; while internal wiring models cancel the terminal design, the high-temperature resistant wire is directly led out from the inside of the heater, forming an integrated structure. This structural difference directly leads to the difference in failure rate: the terminal of the external wiring heater is a vulnerable part, which is easy to loosen, oxidize and poor contact under long-term high temperature and vibration, resulting in heater failure; the internal wiring heater has no terminal, completely avoiding this kind of failure, and the failure rate is much lower.
In terms of service life, internal wiring cartridge heaters are far superior. The internal is filled with high-purity magnesium oxide powder, the heating wire and lead wire are firmly fixed, not easy to shift and damage, and the service life is 3-5 times that of external wiring heaters. External wiring heaters have short service life due to terminal problems and loose internal components, and need to be replaced frequently, increasing maintenance costs.
In terms of high temperature resistance, the wire of internal wiring heaters can withstand a high temperature of 450℃ and can work for a long time in a 350℃ environment, while the terminal parts of external wiring heaters are easy to age and melt at high temperatures, and the high temperature resistance is poor. The surface load of internal wiring heaters is up to 25W per square centimeter, which has higher heating efficiency, while the surface load of external wiring heaters is low, and the heating speed is slow.
In terms of application scenarios, external wiring heaters are suitable for low-vibration, normal temperature and simple heating scenarios with low requirements, such as ordinary small heating equipment and low-demand heating; internal wiring heaters are suitable for closed space heating, high-vibration environment, high-temperature working conditions and precision equipment heating, such as mold embedded heating, medical devices, plastic sealing machines, cigarette making machines and other equipment.
In terms of safety performance, internal wiring heaters comply with CE standards, cold-state withstand voltage AC 1500V, hot-state AC 1000V, insulation resistance greater than 50MΩ, leakage current less than 0.5MA, with higher safety; external wiring heaters have relatively low safety performance due to terminal exposed and easy to produce electric leakage risks.
In terms of installation and maintenance, external wiring heaters are easy to install but require frequent maintenance of terminals, tightening screws and replacing aging parts; internal wiring heaters are easy to install, no need to maintain terminals, only regular inspection of appearance and insulation performance, maintenance is more convenient.
To sum up, internal wiring cartridge heaters have obvious advantages in terms of failure rate, service life, high temperature resistance and application range, and are suitable for high-demand industrial heating scenarios; external wiring heaters are low in cost, suitable for low-demand temporary heating or simple equipment. When choosing, users should combine their own equipment working conditions, production requirements and use environment to select the most suitable type to ensure production efficiency and reduce costs.
