Uniform and stable mold temperature is the core prerequisite for ensuring the quality of injection molded, extruded, and die-cast products, and the arrangement of single-ended cartridge heaters directly determines the temperature uniformity of the entire mold. Many manufacturing enterprises encounter issues such as product deformation, insufficient filling, and inconsistent surface glossiness, which are largely attributed to irrational cartridge heater arrangement that creates local hot and cold spots in the mold. Mastering scientific arrangement strategies is key to solving these thermal uniformity problems.

Single-ended cartridge heaters, characterized by power leads concentrated at one end, are more flexible for installation in limited mold spaces compared to double-ended heaters. Their arrangement is not a simple uniform distribution but needs to be customized based on mold size, cavity structure, material flow path, and heat loss characteristics. Understanding the heat transfer mechanism of cartridge heaters is the foundation of rational arrangement: heat is transferred from the heater surface to the mold wall through contact conduction, and the heat influence range of a single heater is approximately 1.5-2 times its diameter, which is a core basis for calculating arrangement spacing.

For small and regular-shaped molds, symmetrical uniform arrangement is the most practical strategy. Install cartridge heaters along the mold's central axis or cavity contour at equal spacing, ensuring the distance between adjacent heaters is controlled within 1.5-2 times the heater diameter. This layout allows heat to be evenly conducted throughout the mold, eliminating large temperature differences. In actual operation, this arrangement ensures consistent heating speed across all parts of the mold, avoiding local overheating or insufficient heating, and is especially suitable for small precision plastic molds and simple metal die molds.

For large-size or complex-shaped molds with irregular cavities, variable-density arrangement is required. Areas close to the mold cavity, material injection ports, and heat dissipation surfaces need denser heater arrangement, while the outer edge and areas with less heat demand can adopt a wider spacing. According to practical engineering experience, the heater spacing in key heating areas can be reduced to 1-1.5 times the diameter, and the outer area can be relaxed to 2-2.5 times the diameter. This targeted dense arrangement compensates for heat loss in key areas and ensures temperature consistency across complex mold surfaces, effectively solving the problem of uneven heating in large molds.

Local precise heating arrangement is indispensable for molds with special local temperature requirements. For mold parts such as deep cavities, thin-walled structures, and flow channel branches that require independent temperature control, independent single-ended cartridge heaters can be arranged locally. These heaters are equipped with independent temperature control sensors to achieve precise temperature adjustment for specific areas, meeting the special heating needs of complex product molding. This arrangement avoids overall temperature adjustment affecting other areas and improves the flexibility of mold temperature control.

Additional details in heater arrangement cannot be ignored. The distance between the heater and the mold cavity surface should be kept at 1.5-3 times the heater diameter to prevent excessive local temperature from damaging the mold cavity. Heaters should be kept away from mold cooling channels to avoid mutual interference between heating and cooling systems. Thermal conductive paste must be applied between the heater and the installation hole to eliminate air gaps and enhance heat transfer efficiency.

Rational arrangement of single-ended cartridge heaters is a systematic thermal design work that requires comprehensive consideration of mold structure, production process, and product requirements. Blindly arranging heaters without professional thermal analysis will only lead to inefficient heating and production quality issues. Different mold structures demand personalized arrangement schemes, and professional thermal layout design can maximize the heating performance of cartridge heaters, ensuring stable and efficient mold operation.
