The Difference Between 24V Low Voltage Cartridge Heaters and High-Voltage Cartridge Heaters

In industrial heating applications, cartridge heaters are divided into low-voltage and high-voltage types according to voltage specifications, and 24V low voltage cartridge heaters are widely used in scenarios with high safety requirements. However, many users cannot clearly distinguish between 24V low voltage cartridge heaters and high-voltage ones, leading to wrong selection and affecting production efficiency and safety. According to experience, the core difference between the two lies in voltage, safety performance, and application scenarios, and understanding these differences is the key to selecting the right cartridge heater.

First of all, the most obvious difference is the rated voltage. 24V low voltage cartridge heaters adopt a 24V rated voltage design, which belongs to the safe low voltage range specified internationally, while high-voltage cartridge heaters usually have a rated voltage of 110V, 220V, or 380V, which is much higher than the safe voltage. This difference directly determines their safety performance-24V low voltage cartridge heaters have extremely low risk of electric shock and electric leakage, even if there is a fault in the insulation layer, it will not cause harm to the human body or equipment. High-voltage cartridge heaters, on the other hand, have higher safety risks, especially in humid or flammable environments, where electric leakage may cause fires or personal accidents.

In terms of heating principle, 24V low voltage cartridge heaters and high-voltage ones are basically the same-both rely on the resistance wire to convert electrical energy into heat, and transfer heat through MgO powder and metal shell. However, due to the difference in voltage, their power design and watt density are also different. The watt density of 24V low voltage cartridge heaters is usually 5-7 W/cm², which is a moderate range to ensure heating efficiency while avoiding overheating. High-voltage cartridge heaters often have higher watt density, which can generate more heat in a short time, but the risk of overheating is also higher, and the service life is usually shorter than that of 24V low voltage ones under the same use conditions.

Application scenarios are another important difference. 24V low voltage cartridge heaters are mainly used in scenarios with high safety requirements, limited space, and precise temperature control, such as medical equipment, food processing, 3D printers, and small electronic devices. For example, medical incubators need to ensure the safety of patients and experimental samples, so 24V low voltage cartridge heaters are the best choice. High-voltage cartridge heaters are more suitable for large-scale industrial heating scenarios with low safety requirements, such as large boilers, industrial furnaces, and large-scale mold heating, where high power and rapid heating are needed, and there are professional safety protection measures.

In terms of installation and use, 24V low voltage cartridge heaters have higher requirements for power supply stability. Since the voltage is low, unstable voltage will directly affect the heating effect, so it is usually necessary to match a dedicated voltage stabilizer. High-voltage cartridge heaters have relatively low requirements for power supply, but they need to be equipped with more complete safety protection devices, such as leakage protectors and over-temperature protectors. In addition, the installation size of 24V low voltage cartridge heaters is usually smaller, which is more suitable for narrow installation spaces, while high-voltage ones are often larger in size and suitable for large-scale equipment.

There are also differences in maintenance and service life. 24V low voltage cartridge heaters have a longer service life under correct use and maintenance, usually more than 5000 hours, because their watt density is moderate and the working temperature is relatively stable. High-voltage cartridge heaters have higher working temperature and faster wear of resistance wire, so their service life is usually 2000-3000 hours. In terms of maintenance, 24V low voltage cartridge heaters mainly need to avoid dry burning and regular cleaning, while high-voltage ones need to check the insulation performance and safety protection devices more frequently.

To sum up, 24V low voltage cartridge heaters and high-voltage ones have obvious differences in voltage, safety, application scenarios, and service life. Choosing the right type according to the actual application scenario is crucial to ensuring production safety and efficiency. For scenarios with high safety requirements, limited space, and precise temperature control, 24V low voltage cartridge heaters are the more reliable choice, and professional scheme design can help match the most suitable specifications to maximize the use effect.
