In mold heating applications, many enterprises pay more attention to the heating speed and power of cartridge heaters, but often ignore the temperature uniformity of the heaters. However, temperature uniformity is one of the key factors affecting mold heating effect and product quality. In fact, even if the cartridge heater has high power and fast heating speed, if the temperature uniformity is poor, it will still lead to a series of problems such as unqualified product forming, increased scrap rate and reduced production efficiency.

Temperature uniformity of cartridge heaters refers to the consistency of temperature distribution on the surface of the heater and the heat transferred to the mold. For molds, especially precision molds such as injection molding molds and die casting molds, the temperature of each part needs to be kept consistent. If the temperature uniformity of the cartridge heater is poor, the local temperature of the mold will be too high or too low. For example, in the injection molding process of precision plastic parts, if the local temperature of the mold is too high, the plastic will be overheated and decomposed, resulting in product discoloration and surface defects; if the local temperature is too low, the plastic will not be fully melted, resulting in product shrinkage and deformation.

According to experience, the temperature difference of high-quality cartridge heaters in mold heating should not exceed ±5℃. To ensure the temperature uniformity of cartridge heaters, several aspects need to be considered in the design and production process. First of all, the heating element should be evenly distributed inside the heater. The heating element is the core part of the cartridge heater, and its uniform distribution can ensure that the heat generated by the heater is evenly distributed. Secondly, the sheath material of the heater should have good thermal conductivity. Materials with good thermal conductivity can quickly transfer the heat generated by the heating element to the surface of the heater, avoiding local overheating. In addition, the manufacturing precision of the heater is also very important. The uneven diameter or bending of the heater will lead to uneven fit between the heater and the mold hole, thus affecting the temperature uniformity.

In the actual application process, the installation method of the cartridge heater also has a great impact on the temperature uniformity. If the installation of the heater is not firm or the distribution of the installation holes is unreasonable, it will lead to uneven heat transfer between the heater and the mold. Therefore, when installing the cartridge heater, it is necessary to ensure that the heater is closely fitted with the mold hole, and the installation holes are evenly distributed according to the size and shape of the mold. At the same time, a high-precision temperature control system should be equipped to monitor and adjust the temperature of the mold in real time, ensuring that the temperature of each part of the mold is kept consistent.

To sum up, the temperature uniformity of cartridge heaters plays a vital role in mold heating. It directly affects the product quality, production efficiency and scrap rate. Enterprises should pay enough attention to the temperature uniformity when selecting and using cartridge heaters. Different mold types and precision requirements require professional scheme design to ensure that the cartridge heater can provide uniform and stable heat for the mold.
